Molasses is used for a wide range of industrial applications. Our knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of molasses and related liquids allows us to offer suitable blends and origins for many purposes.

Industrial Fermentation
Yeast/MSG/Citric Acid/Alcohol/Lysine – Molasses is widely used in the fermentation industry and is an excellent feedstock both in terms of fermentation characteristics, handling and value.

Agglomeration
Steel/Fibre glass etc. – Molasses is inherently an ideal binder due to its liquid form and sticking characteristics. It can also aid processes in product recovery.

Briquetting
Environmentally friendly, renewable and sustainable* molasses is the ideal binder for many industrial processes.

Feed Block Manufacture
Molasses is the key ingredient in feed blocks (chemically hardened/low moisture) manufacture.

Pollution Control and Bioremediation
The addition of molasses to contaminated soil (e.g., heavy metals) has been shown to significantly reduce the levels of contamination by stimulating the natural processes in the soil to actively break down contaminants and promote uptake into host crops.

Water Treatment
Many water treatment plants in the UK rely on Carbon addition to aid denitrification of waste water – often using potentially hazardous materials as a source. At ED&F Man we source raw materials from around the world, including sugar and other carbon-based products. We can blend these to suit your unique circumstances – providing a safe, cost-effective solution to Nitrate and Ammonia control.

AD & Biogas
Anaerobic digestion speaks for itself – bacteria working in anaerobic conditions to break down coarse feedstock, producing Methane for harvest along with other gases. By supplementing your digestion chamber with a high energy and protein blend, greater control of all your outputs can be obtained – along with increased gas yield. Throughput times can be reduced and the consistency of digestates vastly improved – cutting handling costs and breakdown risk. Additives can be designed to enhance existing feedstocks to improve the overall balance of your plant’s nutrition.
